yea the national are on the doveman album along with a bunch of other guests — the guy from Once, Samamidon, Norah Jones, etc. — but they’re always kind of in the background of the songs… i.e. i didn’t know there were special guests until i read about them.

yeah, i was really looking forward to the emmy the great album. i had heard alot of the songs as live versions before the album came out and really liked them. and also her vocals on the lightspeed album were great. but when i listened to the album as a whole it didn’t do anything for me. you’re right though -i should have loved it.

yes, I’ve heard a few singles from doveman and really like them. he also plays live sometimes with the national. i’ll check out the album.

where did you get the balconies album? i can’t find it anywhere.

to each his/her own, but i’m surprised you weren’t into emmy the great, since i recall you liking laura marling and basia bulat last year… same vein.

can’t wait to see the list anyways.

also have you heard doveman – the conformist? it’s the best post-list album i’ve heard… really good break-up/piano-balladry stuff, i feel like it’s up your alley (though it’s an understatement to say i’ve been wrong before).

this list surprised me much more than previous years. alot of the albums I either couldn’t get into, found slightly too “abstract-indie” or just a total disapointmet. maybe I’m just not there yet. a few there I have to still download and a few I’ll give another listen too.
emmy the great, why? and the elvis perkins records were big let downs for me.

yea, the previous camera obscura album was at #2 for me in 06 i think. anyways how do you feel about the new ASDIG compared to the old one (or maybe i’ll wait for your list before we talk)?

didn’t even know southall was still writing — but then i guess that’s the first of real things he’s done in a while. looks like he switched from blogspot to wordpress. also wtf he stole my venn diagram comparison except used it a bit differently for Phoenix. anyways glad to see he’s back at it, i feel like his/my tastes have always been fairly close; he definitely continues to be great at making me want to see patrick wolf live.

also can’t wait for the stylus decade, i’m sure he’ll be a part of that.

micachu, mostly, but i was also surprised to see TMG at only #7 considering how lauded it was by a lot of people. didn’t think you liked camera obscura that much. happy to see ASDIG sneak in.

what’s funny is that i just read southall’s top 40 and his blurb about fuck buttons going dance sounded familiar. “noise-as-dance/dance-as-noise.” you beat him to it.

my list is coming. you know, gotta get it dooooone first.
